The Great Virginia Get Together
Registration Information |
Greetings, VHS Alumni and Virginia Residents Past & Present!
You are invited to THE GREAT VIRGINIA GET-TOGETHER, an All-Class and Community Celebration, held July 1 – 6, 2008. The all-class reunions of the past have been enhanced to welcome home All Virginia Residents past and present. As you look through your registration packet you will see that we have put together an exciting week of activities that promote the best of our community and create great opportunities for fun, reminiscing, and bonding between residents old and new.
If you participated in past reunions or large community celebrations, you might recognize the traditional events, but you’ll also find some new surprises. Please take the time to check out all of our activities. We think you’ll be impressed. Here are just some of the highlights you’ll find on the enclosed event schedule:
- Reminiscing with old friends and their families at organized Neighborhood Picnics. In Virginia, every neighborhood has a particular name. Over 15 separate neighborhood picnics, with convenient box lunches, will make it fun and easy for everyone to reconnect.
- Driving down memory lane with the Classic Car Show on Fifth Avenue followed by a Cruise Night on Chestnut Street.
- Going back in time to when “big screen” literally meant a huge screen at the drive-in. You won’t need your car to enjoy our Outdoor Movie projected onto a 20’ x 40’ screen on Virginia’s popular Ewens Field.
- Enjoying music from all eras, as local music makers – young and old – gather to provide personal outdoor concerts on driveways throughout the community. Plan your own Garage Band Concert Experience!
- Experiencing the life of days gone by as, professional lumberjacks put on spectacular log rolling and chain saw exhibitions. Your children will especially enjoy their lumberjack sport camp.
- Celebrating an old-fashioned 4th of July in Olcott Park, complete with the Patriotic Parade followed by family fun races-n-games for kids of all ages. Be there to cheer on our much loved Virginia Marching Blues, the Reunion Marching Band, VHS Class & Community Floats, as well as the kids in the Traditional Calithumpian Parade.
- Shopping for Souvenirs at “The V Store”, located at Celebration Central in the Miners Memorial Building.
So, register today to take part in this wonderful opportunity to reconnect with classmates, old friends and family members. Follow the instructions on the following pages and mail in your registration form now. Your early response will be helpful to our planning as we finalize the class reunion and neighborhood picnic schedules.
