Frequently Asked Questions

Who can attend the Great Virginia Get-Together?

This is a community celebration. The event has been planned to include VHS alumni, local & past residents, those employed in Virginia. In other words, anyone with a link to Virginia is encouraged to participate.

Can only VHS alumni participate in the band, choir, orchestra and marching band events?

Anyone can register to participate in the band, choir, orchestra and marching band. Simply mark your desire to participate on your registration form. The only requirement is that you attend the two practices that are scheduled. The reunion marching band will be a part of the reunion parade on the Fourth of July. The choir, orchestra and band participants will perform at the Saturday evening concert.

Is there a cost for children to attend events?

There is no cost for children twelve and under to attend the movie or concerts if they are accompanied by a fully registered adult. There is a $5 fee for children 12 and above, but they too must be with a fully-registered adult. Other events are open and can be attended free of charge.

Can anyone attend the outdoor movie event Thursday evening and the concert and dance Saturday evening?

Participation in the movie, Saturday concert & dance require full registration. Tickets to these events may be available at the door if space allows. The cost will be slightly higher than it is for those who have it included in their full registration package.

At what age are you ineligible to qualify as a child under your parent's full registration?

Once a student graduates from high school, they will be considered an adult and need to register just like any other adult.

Who can attend the neighborhood picnics?

The reunion committee is pleased at the overwhelming positive response the neighborhood picnics have received. Anyone with an interest in touching base with friends from a particular neighborhood is eligible to attend. There is no limit (other than time) on the number of picnics you can attend. The only requirement is that you pay your $10/per picnic registration fee.

I have a house that I would like to rent out during the reunion week. How do I post the information on the web site?

Any accommodations posting requests can be sent to Pam Lundstrom, accommodations/class gathering chair, at rp91760@cpinternet.com or mail your request to The Great Virginia Get-Together, Box 3, Virginia, MN 55792

Why should I pay $60 or $40 for full registration, when I can pay $20 and attend my class gathering.

The Virginia Community Foundation reunion committee has worked hard to put together an event like no other Virginia has ever had. Even though our volunteer hours are at no cost, many of the events themselves, even though they are free to you, have a cost to the reunion committee. The initial $20 of a full $60 registration fee, is simply to cover the cost of your class gathering meal. The remaining goes towards covering the cost of organizing an event of this magnitude.

If I have not received a registration in the mail, how do I register? Registrations are available at the Virginia Community Foundation office on the main street, and at the public library. You can also register on line at www.virginiafoundation.com

What are class gatherings and neighborhood picnics?

Virginia has had two very successful all-class reunions. Those events included opportunities for individual classes to get together for a meal and an opportunity to visit with past classmates. The Great Virginia Get-Together will also be providing opportunities for the classes to have their individual reunions. They are being called class gatherings. To expand on the concept, the reunion committee has divided the school district into areas and will be providing an opportunity for neighborhoods to gather at a specific time in a specific area. Whenever possible these neighborhood picnics will take place in the individual neighborhoods. If a neighborhood does not have a good meeting place, we will use our local parks. This gives VHS alumni an opportunity to visit their past neighborhoods. Local residents get the opportunity to meet some of their past neighbors and reconnect with their current neighbors. To date, the neighborhood picnics have been one of the most popular choices for registrants.

Who do I contact if I have an interest in volunteering? And, can I volunteer even if I am a returning alumni or resident no longer living in Virginia.

Yes you can. The committee needs all the help we can get. There are volunteer opportunities both leading up to and during the event. Contact Carol Sundquist at sundquist3@mchsi.com or 749-2392.
